Mozes en Aäronkerk (Moses and Aaron Church) with its two towers behind the trees at the end of the street. This street with its tramway in the middle is called Waterlooplein. The Waterlooplein is known for its popular flea market. The market is just around the corner to the left of the church.

The dark sky contrasted nicely with the white plastered church building which at that moment caught the last rays of sunshine.

This drawing is in black fountain pen and coloured pencils in a A4 sized sketchbook. The print is carefully sized so that the drawing is reproduced as close as possible to its actual size.

Mozes en Aäronkerk

Mozes en Aäronkerk is not that old a church, apparent from it neoclassical architecture. It was built in 1837. But a clandestine church (catholic, which was forbidden in the protestant Netherlands) existed since the 17th century.

The street on the foreground of the drawing used to be the actual marketplace. After many houses were demolished in the second world war, then the construction of a metro tunnel and lastly for the building of the new city hall, the market was moved around the corner.
