De Ruijterkade is located right behind the Amsterdam Central Station on the border of the IJ (the name of Amsterdam’s waterfront).

Across the water in the drawing stands the partly wooden building of the former “Koppe’s Shipping Agency Office”. Ferries across the IJ to the north part of Amsterdam leave here.

In front of he drawing is my bicycle. It features sometimes in my drawings. Later in the day of the drawing I parked it in one of the station’s underground bicycle parkings and caught my train.

De Ruijterkade

The building in the drawing, the “Kantoor van Koppe’s Scheepsagentuur” (Koppe’s Shipping Agency Office), also known as the “NACO-huisje”, was placed on this location only recently.

Before that it had disappeared from Amsterdam for almost 20 years. In 2003 redevelopment of the area started. The building had to go and was in its entirety loaded on a pontoon and shipped off to another port. Work took longer than expected until only in 2021 it was relocated in the current spot.

The building was built in 1919 in the ‘Amsterdam School’ style of architecture with – somewhat strange but also fitting – a roof in the style of the buildings of the Minangkabau people of Sumatra in Indonesia (Indonesia was a Dutch colony at that time).

  • Frame Measurements: 20-25mm (0.79″-0.98″) thick, 10-14mm (0.4″-0.6″) wide.

Premium wooden frames:

  • Frame Material: Responsibly sourced oak and ash wood.
  • Frame Measurements: 20mm (0.79″) thick and wide, wider than the classic 14mm (0.55″) frame.

Premium Matte Paper Poster

Our premium matte paper is heavier-weight, white, and features a smooth, uncoated finish that feels luxuriously soft to the touch:
